Dear Yulia,

I did not know that you could check the status online, but I am glad that you did this and let me know that something is wrong. I called the Western Union hotline again and unfortunately this transaction was also frozen due to ‘suspicious activity’. I was connected once again to the Fraud Prevention Department and spoke to Daniel Wilson once more.

He explained that the transaction was flagged due to the fact that I have tried to send money to the same recipient twice, and he asked what the reason for this 2nd transfer was. Yulia, you would be so proud of me! I was very brave and did what you told me to do. I explained that you were planning on traveling, and that you were actually my wife. I told him that the reason that I canceled the last transaction, was because our child had become ill. Now our child is very ill and requires emergency medical treatment. I think he believed me. He just sent me this Email:

Subject: Suspicious Activity Case 4274991 - Duplicate Transactions

Mr. Dunlap,

Thank you for taking the time contact Western Union once again about your recent money transfer to Russia. For your convenience, I am sending this email as a summary of our phone conversation.

I am so sorry to hear about your child’s sudden illness. I understand now why you cancelled the previous transaction to your wife. I am sorry to hear that your wife and child will not be able to visit you while in business in the US, but I will expedite the release of the funds so that your wife can pay for the urgent treatment of your child.

Due to the fact that this transaction has been flagged for fraud, it is necessary for Yulia to provide a Case Resolution Reference Number (CRRN) when picking up the money. We have also generated a new confirmation (MTCN) number. This is a special MTCN that will not appear when tracked online for your protection since it is set to high priority. However, the Western Union agent in Russia will be able to access this transaction as long as Yulia also provides the CRRN. Here are the 2 numbers that Yulia must provide in person when she collects the funds:

MTCN: 745-934-7745
CRRN: 907ad4b8-2ac8-11eb-b477-5ce0c5fa290e

Please inform your wife that it is very important to provide both codes in person at the Western Union branch or bank where she collects the money.

I have released the freeze on this transaction and have marked it in our system with the highest priority.

From myself and on behalf of Western Union, I wish your child a speedy recovery.

Regards,

Daniel Wilson

I think we are in luck my dear! I had to commit a little fraud and tell a ‘white lie’ to Mr. Wilson, but it worked! You should be able to pick up the money in person when the bank or office opens today. Just be sure to provide both the MTCN and CRRN as Mr. Wilson explained.

I think we have finally solved this issue together, my dear Yulia! You know, I was thinking… We get along and work together so well. We even commit fraud together! haha Today I had to tell that little ‘white lie’ about you being my wife to Dan, but wouldn’t it be great if it wasn’t a lie? I have a wonderful idea! Since we love each other very much, we should get married in Las Vegas!

My dear sweetheart, this would be possible I think. Las Vegas has lots of wedding chapels. I even know people personally who have been married in Las Vegas, and they had a lot of fun at their weddings. We should do it! Please consider this carefully my beautiful Yulia. What do you think about getting married when you come visit? I am crazy about you, and I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you! Please consider it.

Your lover,
Ryli
